Description
Homo sapiens ankyrin repeat domain 1 (cardiac muscle) (ANKRD1), mRNA. The protein encoded by this gene is localized to the nucleus of endothelial cells and is induced by IL-1 and TNF-alpha stimulation. Studies in rat cardiomyocytes suggest that this gene functions as a transcription factor. Interactions between this protein and the sarcomeric proteins myopalladin and titin suggest that it may also be involved in the myofibrillar stretch-sensor system.
The ankyrin repeat domain 1 (ANKRD1) gene is differentially expressed in human and bat cell lines infected with EBOV. Whereas in human cells 23 h p.i.\ it is 18.6X up-regulated (read\_max: 1\,670), expression is slightly down-regulated (2X) in bat cells. For MARV it is the other way around: ANKRD1 is slightly down-regulated (0.8X) in humans and slightly up-regulated in bat cells. The protein expressed by the gene is, amongst other functions, involved in transcriptional regulation and in communication between the sarcoplasm and the nucleus [Almodovar-Garcia et al., Mol Cell Biol, 2014, 34:1500-1511]. Differentially induced expression has also been shown upon human papillomavirus infection [Kaczkowski et al., Sci Rep, 2012, 2:515].
