Description
MYEF2 encodes for myelin expression factor 2 and is a transcriptional repressor of the myelin basic protein gene (MBP). It can bind to the proximal MB1 element 5'-TTGTCC-3' of the MBP promoter. Its binding to MB1 and function are inhibited by PURA.
It is not expressed in human cells or only at very low level but it is constantly expressed at a moderate level in bat cells.
