Description
6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase is the second dehydrogenase in the pentosephosphate shunt. Deficiency of this enzyme is generally asymptomatic, andthe inheritance of this disorder is autosomal dominant. Hemolysis resultsfrom combined deficiency of 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase and6-phosphogluconolactonase suggesting a synergism of the two enzymopathies.
PGD is seen to be downregulated strongly in the late phase of Ebola virusinfection in human cells cells. The homolog bat cells counterpart does not show thispattern.
