Description
Haptoglobin combines with free plasma hemoglobin, preventing loss of iron through the kidneys and protecting the kidneys from damage by hemoglobin, while making the hemoglobin accessible to degradative enzymes. Seems there is a non annotated 3prime exon. In infected human cells after 23hr the expression decreases to almost not detectable values.
