Description
Quality control in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) ensures that only properly folded proteins are retained in the cell through recognition and degradation of misfolded or unassembled proteins. EDEM3 belongs to a group of proteins that accelerate degradation of misfolded glycoproteins in the ER~\citehirao06edem3.
Generally well expressed in human cells and bat cells. In human cells, cells infected with Ebola show an upregulation of EDEM3 after 3 h and a downregulation after 23 h of infection. This pattern is not observed in the wild type or in Marburg infected cells, also not in bat cells. In fact in bat cells, Ebola-infected cells are slightly down-regulated after infection.
