Big congrats to Dr. Emanuel Barth who successfully defended his PhD thesis this morning! During the last years, Emanuel investigated the regulation of aging on transcriptomic level.
Aging is a complex multi-factorial biological process, remaining incompletely understood and causing several severe diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative diseases or cancer. Aging is associated with a progressive loss of cell functions finally resulting in death. Emanuel has investigated aging of different species and tissues on transcriptomic level, describing aging as a stochastic process, leading to an accumulation of different kinds of molecular damage and the respective cellular stress response.
Luckily, Emanuel is staying with our group for the moment. He will be leading the Bioinformatics Core Facility at the FSU Jena which is currently built. We wish Emanuel good luck for all upcoming life and career projects.
